This award-winning apple crisp recipe has been a long-time requested dessert of mine from family and friends. If you want to impress someone but don’t have a lot of experience in the kitchen, this is the perfect recipe for you. You can’t mess it up. Using two kinds of apples balances the dish well. The oat topping and maple whipped cream add amazing texture and sweetness. This can be served hot and fresh out of the oven, at room temperature or reheated in the oven or microwave. It’s truly a no-fuss recipe that everyone will love.
The size of the apples matters as far as how many you use. The apples that you purchase individually would be considered “large.” If you buy a bag of apples, those are usually about half the size of the large ones. I have used both large and small apples for this apple crisp recipe. It’s best to use large because they’re much easier to peel! Those small ones get to be a wrist and finger killer with all that work. If all you have are the small, bagged ones, double the amount of apples.

Tips for the Best Apple Crisp
- Use both sweet and tart apples.
- Slice your apples thin! If they’re thick, then they don’t get soft enough when baking. You also don’t want paper thin slices. A way to get perfect slices is to use a mandolin slicer.
- Use maple flavor (not maple syrup). You can find maple flavor next to vanilla in the baking section.
