Ninja Creami protein pumpkin pie ice cream is what dreams are made of. I will talk more about the recipe itself, but first we need to acknowledge the contraption that makes the ice cream.  It’s the Ninja creami ice cream maker. It is one of the best inventions of all time. You can make regular ice cream and shakes but what’s so great is you can make healthy high protein ice cream that is just as delicious as the real thing. It’s wild you guys. I thought it was just another over-hyped social media trend and ignored it for six months. I finally caved when I saw I could get a basic model (that’s all you need) at Walmart. I ordered it and got it in a few days.

The only downside to this recipe is you have to freeze the mixture for 24 hours. That’s how it goes for all the ice cream made with the creami. To make it less frustrating, I bought extra creami containers and make several flavors at once and keep them in the freezer and mix one up as needed. Just like you’d keep ice cream stored in the freezer. Plan ahead and you’ll never not have your healthy ice cream on hand.

What Elso do I Need to get?

This recipe calls for a couple other things you probably don’t have on hand and that’s pumpkin pie protein powder and Fairlife milk. For protein powder, I love the brand Clean Simple Eats and right now their pumpkin pie protein is 40% off because it’s a seasonal product. Grab it while you can. You can stack my coupon code LAURENBOWER on top of the sale for an additional 10% off. The reason you want Fairlife milk is it packs more protein than cow’s milk and is lactose-free. It’s sold at all major grocery chains. The best method to mixing the ice cream ingredients is a traditional blender or my preferred method, a blender bottle. It’s easier than lugging out the blender and so easy to clean!

What’s protein ice cream like?

Now about this pumpkin pie protein ice cream. The flavor is just like the pumpkin pie blizzard at Dairy Queen! It’s pumpkin creamy ice cream with tiny hunks of graham cracker in it and topped with spray whipped cream. The texture of all the creami lite ice creams comes out like a blizzard if you do all the cycles. The first cycle is “lite ice cream.” This cycle turns the rock-solid frozen ice cream into a hard ice cream like you would get at a scoop ice cream shop. Add a little liquid and run on the second “re-spin” cycle and you get really creamy ice cream similar to soft serve. Then add your mix ins and run the third “mix ins” cycle and you get a consistency similar to a blizzard or McFlurry. I hope you love this as much as I do!

Tips for the Best Protein Ice Cream

  • Freeze for the full 24 hours. Make a bunch at once and this won’t be quite as annoying.
  • Taste the ice cream after the first “lite ice cream” cycle to see if that’s your preferred texture. Again, that’s similar to hard scoop ice cream.
  • You’ll notice the edges of the ice cream don’t get mixed perfectly, if you run hot water around the outside of your container before running it in the machine that can help.
  • If you like larger hunks of mix-ins, then don’t run the “mix-ins” cycle and just mix by hand.
